Lessons On Locs: Hair Steaming

Hair steaming is a technique used to add moisture to the hair by using hot steam. This is achieved by applying heat to the hair, which causes the hair cuticles to open up, allowing the steam to penetrate the hair shaft. The steam helps to hydrate hair, encourages blood flow to the scalp, and promotes healthy hair growth. Hair steaming can be done using a hair steamer or by covering the hair with a warm towel or plastic cap and exposing it to steam from hot water known as the greenhouse method. It is commonly used along with a deep conditioning treatment for dry, damaged or brittle hair.

Hair steaming is beneficial as the heat aids in moisture leaving your parched locs happy and hydrated. Try along with a peppermint or tea tree oil scalp massage for added benefits. The steam lifts the hair cuticle allowing treatments to penetrate deeply into the hair shaft to heal damaged strands.

The process of using moist heat to help open up the hair follicles and pores on your scalp allow better absorption of moisture long term. Combining this with the Lavender & Rose H2O or the Locsturizer Lux Oil is extremely beneficial.
